The California Department of Insurance (CDI) requires home insurance companies to provide discounts to Firewise communities. If you haven’t already done so, download your Hidden Hills Firewise Certificate and send it to your insurance company to see what discounts they offer.
For additional discounts and savings, complete additional wildfire mitigation on your home.

The primary reason for creating the Hidden Hills Firewise Community is to save lives and property. However, in doing so, in October 2022, Commissioner Ricardo Lara, from the California Department of Insurance (CDI), signed into law a regulation that requires insurers to reflect and take into account specified mitigation factors in their rating plans.

Today, there is a shift to “risk prevention” for both homeowners and insurance companies.

Insurance companies offer additional discounts if you can show them you have done wildfire mitigation to your home. Wildfire mitigation is divided into two sections:
1. Home Hardening— mitigation work you have done to the structure of your home.
2. Defensible Space— mitigation work you have done surrounding the structure of your home.
